Two names. Two perspectives. One unforgettable place.
Rising 148 meters (486 feet) from the ocean floor, Kicker Rock is the remnant of an ancient tuff cone formed when hot magma violently met cold seawater in a spectacular underwater explosion. Over millennia, wind and relentless waves carved the original cone into two towering monoliths, split by a narrow channel just 19 meters wide.
From the south, locals see a majestic "Sleeping Lion" (León Dormido) resting on the horizon — its profile unmistakable against the Pacific sky. British mariners, arriving from the north, named it Kicker Rock after a famous sea-stack landmark back in England, and also because from their angle the formation looked like a giant sea boot kicking at the waves.
But the real magic lies beneath the surface. The vertical walls create a nutrient-rich upwelling zone that attracts one of the densest concentrations of marine life in the entire archipelago. This is not just a tour. It is a portal into another world.
